· Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics, using gold or other precious metals, to highlight cracks and breaks in a beautiful way. This method embraces imperfections, celebrating the repair and accepting the object’s history, rather than trying to hide damages. A direct translation of the word kintsugi (金継ぎ) is "golden joinery." Traditional methods use ‘urushi lacquer’ (made from the sap of the Toxicodendron vernicifluum tree, commonly called the Japanese lacquer tree). Modern methods use epoxy resins to speed up the curing process and there are many ways of achieving the look of kintsugi, while embodying the philosophy.
